Health and Fitness – Popular Myths De-mystified

Keep in mind that not all you read and hear about recommendations for being healthy are reliable and trusted. Amazing as it seems, there are some who think everything on the internet are facts. It is why there is an entire market out there designed to come up with products that make you think that one pill can make you immediately and magically perfectly healthy. All we can do is inform you about the various untruths surrounding some claims made in the fitness/health market.

One of the most pervasive myths out there, particularly for children, is that multivitamins are really important and that one should be taken every day. If you are really unsure about what to do, then talk to your child’s doctor and see what the current professional consensus is. Sometimes it is normal to get more than enough of B vitamins and if this happens then most tend to be water soluble anyway. A good thing does not mean you need to take more of it and that is one thing that many people conclude – be sensible with them.

All the omega EFAs come from fish, for the most part and it is great to get them in capsule form for those people who cannot stand the taste of fish. It’s actually true for very young children up until the age of four or so that eating fish, particularly salmon, is fantastic for improving brain function and development. As an adult, however, things are pretty much evened out with fish but  salmon is still one of the best foods you can eat. It’s packed full of vitamins, minerals and those amazing omega-3 fatty acids that your body needs for so many things. You would do well to do research on various supplements if you would rather take them than cook the fish, etc.

Health conscious people will not touch saturated fats with a ten foot pole, and maybe that describes you, too. For a really long time, the pervading message has been that all saturated fats are terrible for you and should be avoided at all costs. Your body has a clear need for saturated fats, and it’s just that certain conditions you create can cause problems. The truth is that there are many factors that will affect how your body responds to fat intake. So it is possible to alter your diet in a way that allows for moderate intake, and have an active life and eat balanced.
